Criminals before heroes – The Cuomo Way.
Eliminating $6 million from programs established to support our veterans is another example of how Cuomo and the Assembly Majority simply do not care about New Yorkers and shows their absolute disregard for what is right.
Cuomo and the Assembly Majority must STOP pandering and start caring about Americans especially those that protect – the American Dream! We demand that the $6 million cut from the budget that funds the much-needed veteran programs be restored and increased.
Cuomo, our tax dollars are not for you to use to protect criminals while ignoring our veterans for your political gains!
I asked each of you to call your legislators in the Assembly and insist they get behind legislation A09149 sponsored by the Assembly Minority (calling for a study on converting the Department of Veterans’ Services to an administrative agency independent to the executive department) and move this bill from committee to the floor for a vote this session – the support and care for our veterans should never be the pawn of a political agenda that places criminals before heroes.
"The following are programs which would be affected by the $6 million cuts in the budget:
Helmets-to-Hardhats – $200,000: a program assisting post-9/11 veterans transition into careers in the building trade;
Clear Path for Veterans – $200,000: provides professional skills development, career training, peer and wingman services, and K-9 therapy;
NYS Defenders Association Veterans Defense Program – $500,000: Provides training, legal assistance and support to provide legal representation for veterans and service members;
SAGE Veterans Project – $100,000: provides services for LGBTQ veterans to help improve their access to VA and other services.
Friend also sponsors legislation, A.9149, calling for a study on converting the Department of Veterans’ Services to an administrative agency independent to the executive department. If such a conversion is feasible, veterans’ services will be less impacted by the whims of any governor’s budgetary agenda." Read more.
